Make the best, most addictive Chex Party Mix at home using this classic, buttery recipe. It is a simple oven-baked snack mix perfect for game days or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 cups Chex cereal (a mix of Rice Chex and Corn Chex works best)
  • 1 cup pretzel twists
  • 1 cup bagel chips
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (pecans, almonds, or peanuts)
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a little heat)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a very large bowl, combine the Chex cereal, pretzels, bagel chips, and nuts. Set aside.
  3. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Do not let it brown.
  4. Remove the butter from the heat. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well to combine the seasoning blend.
  5. Pour the seasoned butter mixture evenly over the cereal mixture in the large bowl. Gently stir with a large rubber spatula until all the cereal pieces are lightly coated. This step requires patience to coat everything without crushing the cereal.
  6. Spread the coated mix in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and gently stir the mix. Return to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the snack mix cool completely on the baking sheets before serving or storing. The mix will crisp up as it cools.

Notes

  • For an extra savory flavor, use the full amount of butter specified; many popular recipes increase the butter slightly for a richer coating.
  • You can substitute any cereal you like, but using a combination of Rice Chex and Corn Chex provides the best texture contrast.
  • Store your cooled, homemade Chex Party Mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
