Make this rich, creamy white pizza sauce at home in just 10 minutes. This garlic butter pizza sauce is the best base for homemade pizza, offering a flavorful alternative to tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  2. Whisk in the flour to create a smooth paste (a roux). Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  3. Slowly whisk in the warm milk until the mixture is smooth and there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring often, until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  5. Continue stirring until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy. Remove from heat immediately.
  6. Use this creamy white garlic pizza sauce as the base for your favorite pizza crust and toppings.

Notes

  • For an even richer flavor, substitute cream cheese for half of the heavy cream.
  • This sauce works well as an Alfredo pizza sauce substitute.
  • Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop.
